Writing coach notes (coach and assistant coach)
Where notes live, how they show up to athletes, and how to use templates.
What a coach note is
A CoachNote is a short structured comment attached to an athlete
(and optionally to a specific activity, race, or domain). Notes are
your primary record of "what I told this athlete this week" and
they show up on the athlete's dashboard.
Where to write a note
- From the athlete dashboard, click Add note.
- From an activity detail page, click Add activity note to
attach the note to that specific activity.
- From a race page, click Add race note to attach the note
to the saved race plan.
Fields on a note
- Title (optional, short).
- Body (Markdown supported: bold, italic, links, lists).
- Domain (swim, bike, run, general).
- Concerning flag, used when the note represents a flagged
concern such as a fatigue spike or RPE outlier.
- Visible to athlete toggle. Default is off, so notes are
private to you (and any coach actively coaching this athlete on
the same relationship). Turn it on when you want the athlete
to see the note. Leave it off for internal interpretations,
limiter notes, or strategy you do not want them reading.
Who can read a note
- You (the author): always, forever, even after you stop
coaching this athlete.
- Admins: always.
- Other coaches currently coaching this athlete: only while
they share an active relationship with the athlete. If the
athlete switches coaches, the new coach does not see your
notes.
- The athlete: only if you flipped "visible to athlete" on.
Note templates
Use NoteTemplate to save reusable notes (e.g. "post-FTP test
follow-up", "long ride debrief"). Templates pre-fill the body and
domain so you only type the variable parts.
How notes show up to the athlete
Only notes you flagged visible to athlete show up for them:
- Recent visible notes appear on the athlete dashboard.
- Activity notes show inline on the activity detail page.
- Race notes show on the saved wizard outputs and on the post-race recap.
Concerning notes
A note marked concerning triggers a notification (if the
athlete has notifications on) and surfaces on the coach dashboard
roster row with a small warning indicator. Use this only when you
want the issue to be visible. Routine debriefs do not need to be
marked concerning.
Editing and deleting
You can edit your own notes any time. Notes from a previous coach
(after a switch) are read only.
