For Coaches Coaching workflows

Technical Bike Assessment (manual coach form)

A multi-section observation form for bike handling, cornering, fueling on the bike, and the Infinity Test.

What this assessment is

The Technical Bike Assessment completes the technique trio with the Technical Swim Assessment and the Technical Run Assessment: a manual coach observation form for bike-handling skill — control, cornering, fueling on the move, and mechanical self-sufficiency.

The sections

  1. General: bike used, years riding, group-riding experience, crash history / lingering fears, and the test conditions (surface, wet or dry, pedals).
  2. Bike at a Glance (1–5): quick ratings across the major handling elements.
  3. Slow-speed control (1–5): the drill battery — track stand, staying in a box, holding a line while looking at an object, slalom, figure eight.
  4. Dynamic skills (1–5): left and right U-turns, braking technique, descending, one-hand and no-hand riding, bunny hop, riding over obstacles.
  5. Hands-off & fueling handling (1–5): grabbing, using and returning a bottle — inner frame, behind the saddle, cockpit — plus taking a bottle from a table or the ground at speed.
  6. Speed skills: the Infinity Test (below) and related timed work.
  7. Triathlon-specific (1–5): mounting, dismounting, riding in traffic near other athletes.
  8. Mechanical self-sufficiency: maintenance and roadside-fix ratings.
  9. Summary: overall scores and free-text prescription.

Ratings are on the same 1–5 scale as the swim and run cards, so the three dashboards read consistently.

The Infinity Test

A measurable cornering benchmark:

Grepiac converts the time to a 1–5 score against a world-class benchmark for the athlete's sex (M ≈ 4:30, F ≈ 5:00): within 10% of the benchmark scores 5, within 25% scores 4, within 45% scores 3, within 70% scores 2, slower scores 1. The bands are a first cut and will be tuned as squad times accumulate.

Where the results show up

The bike page of the athlete's sport analytics gains an assessment card — same pattern as the swim card — with the at-a-glance bars, the skills grid, the Infinity score, and assessment history. Descending and handling scores also feed coach-observed evidence into race-selection tooling, where a coach's observation outranks self-reported confidence.

How to run the review

A full session takes 45–90 minutes on a closed surface (empty car park or quiet loop). The form is partial-save friendly: score what you observed, leave the rest blank, and retest specific sections later.
