Pre-race equipment checklist
A pragmatic checklist for the week before a race, mapped to the equipment fields the Hub tracks.
Why a checklist
Race day is the wrong time to discover that the wheels you
planned to use are still on the training bike, or that the
race tire ran flat in the garage. A simple end-to-end check
the week before catches the easy ones.
The checklist below is mapped to the fields the Hub tracks,
so going through it also gives you a chance to update your
equipment records.
Bike
- Primary bike confirmed. The
is_primary flag is on the
bike you intend to race.
Managing multiple bikes.
- Race wheels noted on the BikeSetup. If you are swapping
in race wheels for this race, update the front and rear
wheel fields now and log a
BikeChangeLog entry so
the change is timestamped.
- Race tires mounted and verified. Brand, model, width
in the front and rear tire fields.
- Tire pressure target set. Update tire_pressure_front
and tire_pressure_rear with the race-day target so you
have it on race morning.
- Crank length unchanged from training (do not swap
cranks the week before a race).
- Saddle height unchanged from training (do not chase a
fit change in race week).
- Helmet verified on the bike setup record. UCI or
WTC-legal where required.
Swim
- Wetsuit decision: write it in the race-day plan
(legality + temperature decision is yours, the Hub does
not auto-check).
- Primary trisuit / swimskin confirmed on the
SwimEquipment row.
- Goggles: race pair plus a spare with a different tint
for changing light.
- Cap: official race cap on race day, but log your warm-up
cap if you have a preferred one.
Run
- Race shoes present and noted on
RunEquipment as
primary. Confirm mileage is in the "race ready" window for
the shoe model.
- Socks chosen.
- Insoles in the race shoe.
Nutrition (linked to equipment)
- Bottles mounted on the bike, both with the planned race
drink.
- Gels / bars counted out per the
fueling plan and
pre-positioned where you will reach for them.
- Salt tabs counted out and stored where you will reach
for them.
Final pass: ride the race bike
Twenty to forty minutes of easy riding the day before the
race, in race kit, with race wheels, exposes anything that
slipped through (rubbing brake, mis-aligned saddle, slow
leak, untuned shifter).
