Troubleshooting
Notification spam: tuning what you actually want
How to silence the noise without missing the things that matter.
Where to tune
Notification preferences live at
/settings/notifications/. Each notification type has
its own controls:
- In-app on / off: whether the bell icon shows the
alert.
- Email frequency: off, instant, daily digest, weekly
digest.
A working starter setup
For most athletes:
- Race countdown: instant. Keep.
- Race plan ready: instant. Keep.
- Concerning note (coach to athlete): instant.
- Plan deploy: daily digest is enough.
- Wellness reminder (if you skip logging): daily
digest, or off if you log without reminders.
- Everything else: weekly digest or off.
For most coaches:
- Concerning wellness on a roster athlete: instant.
- Metric submission pending review: instant.
- Assessment-flagged activity uploaded: instant.
- A or B race coming up: daily digest.
- Athlete added a race: weekly digest or off.
Symptom: Too many emails
The most common over-noise pattern: every type is set to
instant by default. Walk through each one and decide:
- Do I need this in real time?
- Or does daily / weekly capture it?
Switch to digest by default; reserve instant for things
that change race-week decisions.
Symptom: Critical things missed
The opposite: everything set to off because you got
overwhelmed once. Walk back through:
- Race-related notifications: at least daily.
- Concerning wellness (coaches): instant.
- Metric review (coaches): instant or daily.
You can leave low-priority types off without losing the
high-priority ones.
Symptom: Email goes to spam
- Add the Hub's sending domain to your address book.
- Mark previous Hub emails as "Not spam" in your
provider. After 2 or 3 marks, most providers learn.
- If a corporate filter is blocking, ask your IT to
whitelist the sending domain.
Symptom: Unsubscribe link in the email
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking
it lands on the preferences page pre-scoped to that
type so you can silence only the offending type without
disabling everything.
Symptom: In-app bell never clears
- Click the bell and read each item. The bell clears
on read.
- If a specific notification keeps reappearing: it
may be a recurring trigger (e.g. race countdown fires
daily as the race approaches). That is by design.
What the Hub does NOT do
- No push notifications to a phone app (no Hub mobile
app yet).
- No SMS notifications.
- No external webhook for notification events.
When to escalate
If you cannot get a notification to fire when you expect
it (e.g. concerning wellness has been on for days and you
still have not been notified):
- Check that the type is enabled at the right frequency.
- Check that the underlying event actually occurred (look
at the athlete's wellness logs to confirm the flag fired).
- Use the bug widget if the type is enabled but no email
arrived.
